IS YOUR HOME READY FOR SPRING?

As the weather begins to warm up and the flowers start to bloom, it's the perfect time to tackle a few essential home maintenance tasks! By keeping up on the maintenance of your home you reduce the risk of having to pay for costly repairs and you keep your home looking great! It is important after the winter season to inspect the exterior and interior of your home to ensure nothing was damaged. Below are five things you can do to get your home ready for the warm weather ahead!


1. Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts

Ensuring your gutters and downspouts are free of debris will allow spring rain to freely move through your gutters. Properly installed gutters help keep water away from your house and prevent water from pooling near your foundation.



2. Inspect Your Roof

Winter storms can cause damage to your roof. Make sure to take a visual scan and look for any missing shingles or anything that seems damaged. If you notice anything that needs a closer look and you aren't comfortable climbing on your roof, make sure to call a roofer.



3. Change Your Air Filter(s)

One of the simplest ways to ensure your HVAC system lives it's longest life is to replace your air filter at least once a season. Changing your air filter can also help reduce the amount of dust in your home.




4. Check Your Smoke Detectors

To ensure your smoke detector is working properly, press the test button on the alarm. If it is not working, simply change the batteries. If after changing the batteries, the smoke detector is still not working you should purchase a new alarm.





5. Check for Signs of Pests in Your Home

During the winter months, critters like to find warm spaces in homes. When spring arrives those critters begin to breed. It is important to check for pests in your home and take the proper steps to get rid of them before they cause and damage.
