Thirty-five years ago, the United Nations General Assembly took an important step in promoting the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live by declaring that the first Monday in October would be World Habitat Day. On Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, Habitat for Humanity joins with our partners around the world to rededicate ourselves to recognizing the basic right to adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity International asks all U.S. affiliates, state support organizations, partners and supporters to come together as one network in communicating that:

• Every one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future.
• A decent place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, health and success that might have been part of a family’s life for years and in many cases for generations.
• It is unacceptable that even before the COVID-19 crisis, more than 18 million U.S. households were paying half or more of their income on housing. Now, as the significant economic impacts of COVID-19 continue to unfold, the number of families struggling to make ends meet is only growing.

Each year, Habitat for Humanity offers World Habitat Day tools to align and amplify our collective voice. For 2020, we  encourage all our volunteers, supporters and partners to reach out and involve their communities on World Habitat Day.  Join us and take a stand for affordable housing!

our mission:

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of the U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin. For information on Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, click here or contact your local HUD office.
